Hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing are some of the most popular activities in the North Georgia Mountains. Residents and visitors to this area of the Blue Ridge Mountains enjoy hiking in the areas around the Appalachian Trail and the Benton MacKaye Trail. The Aska Trails and the Cohutta Wilderness Area are also popular spots with plenty of trails to mountain bike and hike. Below you’ll find a few of the most popular trails listed along with information regarding the length of the trail.

Both the Aska Trail areas and the Cohutta Wilderness Area are popular hiking, mountain biking and camping locations. The Cohutta Wilderness Area is over 40,000 acres of forested mountain areas in Georgia and Tennessee. This area of Fannin County is widely known as one of the remaining vast natural areas in the country.

A very popular day hiking trail is the Benton MacKaye Trail which leads to the 265 foot swinging bridge over the Toccoa River. The swinging bridge truly is a Fannin County landmark and many pick this location as a camping spot as it is part of the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area.

Fannin County and the North Georgia Mountains are also the home of the Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race. The Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race has been taking place in the North Georgia Mountains since 1998, and draws many visitors to this region of the Southeast each year. Teams of three people plus one support person compete against one another in activities like mountain biking, trekking, kayaking, canoeing, rappelling, orienteering, wet river crossing, and climbing. Throughout the race there are numerous other challenges that are hidden within the race, and are particularly demanding for competitors. Each year the race changes and the challenges are diversified, making it a different race every time. Starting in a secret location of the Chattahoochee National Forest, the race goes through many miles and ends in downtown Blue Ridge, at the park. Train and compete in the race, or come and watch the teams who are trying to win; it’s always a fun event for all!

Lake Blue Ridge Loop Trail
This is an easy trail that goes along the shores of Lake Blue Ridge, and then through a portion of woods. Total trip is 0.6 miles.

Green Mountain Trail
An easy to moderate trail that leaves from Deep Gap and goes into the Aska Adventure Area and follows up Green Mountain showing great views of Lake Blue Ridge.

Tipton Mountain
This is a steep, difficult 2.6 mile in and out climb on the Benton MacKaye Trail from Highway 60. This trail leads to some great views.

Swinging Bridge
The swinging bridge is 14.3 miles from the start of the Benton MacKaye Trail at Springer Mountain.

Green Mountain Trail - 4.6 miles
Flat Creek Loop - 5.8 miles
